CBD and THC are both found in cannabis plants, but they interact with your body differently. Hemp and cannabis come from the Cannabis sativa, C. indica or C. ruderalis plant.
So what is the Difference between Cannabis THC and Cannabis CBD?
In a short answer it is the ‘High’ that is found in THC and the healing properties found in CBD.
THC stands for Tetra-hydra Cannabinol, and CBD stands for cannabidiol.
As the legal use of hemp and other cannabis products grows, consumers are becoming more curious about their options. This includes cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), two natural compounds found in plants of the Cannabis genus.
Both compounds interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system, but they have very different effects.
What is CBD?
CBD can be extracted from the male hemp or cannabis plant or the leaf material of the female plant but not from the female bud. Legal hemp must contain 0.2% THC or less. CBD is sold in teas, cigarettes, gels, oils, supplements, extracts, and more. CBD does not produce the “high” sensation associated with cannabis.

What is THC?
THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces a “high” sensation. THC is found in the Female Buds. It can be consumed by smoking cannabis. It’s also available in oils, edibles, tinctures, capsules, and more.

Is CBD Legal?
Laws are dependant on National and State legislation. In South Africa, Hemp-derived CBD products (with less than 0.2 percent THC) are legal, but various cannabis products are still illegal in some other countries. In the United States Marijuana-derived CBD products are illegal on the federal level, but are legal under some state laws. Check your local laws and those of anywhere you travel to. Keep in mind that nonprescription CBD products may be inaccurately labelled.
Cannabis Hermaphrodite
CBD and THC have the same molecular structure: 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. A slight difference in how the atoms are arranged accounts for the differing effects on your body.
CBD and THC are chemically similar to your body’s endocannabinoids. This allows them to interact with your cannabinoid receptors in the human Endocannabinoid System. The interaction affects the release of neurotransmitters in your brain.
What is the Endocannabinoid system?
It is a Human Neural network that extends throughout the body and is linked to immunity modulation. It has two types of receptor sites; CB1 & CB2. These attract the various cannabis molecules and stimulate the endocannabinoid system into activation enabling healing.
THC binds with the cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptors in the brain, producing a high or a sense of euphoria.
CBD binds with the cannabinoid 2 (CB2) receptor sites situated predominantly in the body’s muscular system.
In conclusion
CBD and THC have many of the same medical benefits. They can provide relief from several of the same conditions. However, CBD doesn’t cause the euphoric effects that occur with THC. Some people may prefer to use CBD because of the lack of this side effect.
